Embroidered One-of-Kind Jackets

The seamstresses of the El Salitre Center enhance many different products with their embroidery expertise. The women enjoy using their artisan skills to repurpose and transform gently used blue jean jackets into amazing works of art.

Guatemalan embroidery is colorful and detailed. There are no embroidery machines used – all embroidery is done by hand with a needle and thread.

The history of embroidery is deep in the Guatemalan culture. The traditional huipils, an embroidered blouse worn by locals, are all handmade and reflect the patterns of their local communities. Upcycled huipils may also be used in the denim jacket designs.
