Cheryl is a retired Superintendent of Schools with over 40 years of experience in public education, She began her career as a middle school music teacher in Illinois. After relocating to Missouri, she moved from the classroom into administration.
Throughout her career as an educator, Cheryl has held leadership roles and been active in numerous professional and civic organizations including: Chamber of Commerce, Optimist Club, American Association of School Administrators, Kappa Delta Pi, Women in Leadership, National Staff Development Council, Missouri/Kansas Superintendent Forum, and several municipal business associations.
While serving as Superintendent of Schools, she founded the Ritenour Pride and Promise Foundation, supporting children and future educators, and continues to serve as a Board member. After retiring from public education, she worked in the Educational Leadership Department of Maryville University as an Assistant Professor, started a consulting firm, and continued her work as a presenter for state and national conferences. She has received recognition and awards at both the regional and state levels for educational advocacy and progress. Her passions have always been making a positive difference in the lives of children and advocating for women’s issues, which led her to join the El Salitre Women’s and Children’s Center Board.
Cheryl lives in Saint Charles, Missouri, with her husband, Steve. They have two children and two grandchildren. She enjoys traveling both in country and abroad, playing golf, reading, and most of all, spending time with her family.
