Norma

I am a 37-year old single mother of one child. My parents were able to help me stay in school until the 6th grade. I have always worked to support my son. I am the caretaker of a home near the El Salitre Women’s and Children’s Center and able to live with my child on the property that I tend. My work at the Center provides much needed money to feed and support us as my son continues in school. Thank you for your support of the Center.

Judith

I am 39 years old and live in El Salitre, Guatemala with my two daughters. I am the sole provider for my family. Thank you for buying an article from the Center. Before I joined the El Salitre Women’s and Children’s Center I worked first as a maid and then as a factory worker and had difficulty feeding my children. With this work I am able to feed my children, keep them in school, and have returned to school myself.

Lety

I am a 32-year old married mother of four children. I never attended school and have learned to read and write on my own since joining the cooperative. I once worked cleaning at a cafeteria and two years ago joined the El Salitre Women’s and Children’s Center where I learned to sew and embroider. My husband has not been able to find work for the last two years. With my work from the Center we are able to feed our children and keep the oldest two in school. If I successfully continue this work the two smaller boys will be able to start school when they are old enough. Thank you for purchasing an item I made and helping me support my family.

Celeste

I am the single mother of two children. We live with my parents and my sister’s four orphaned children. My work with the El Salitre Women’s and Children’s Center is essential to holding my family together and keeping the children in school. Since I joined the Center my mother and I have also been able to start a business out of our home selling popsicles and frozen bananas coated with chocolate. Thank you for purchasing an item from the Center.

Rosa

I am a 42-year old mother of three children. I live in El Salitre, Guatemala on a plot of land by the railroad tracks. I have worked as a maid for 16 years, and continue to do so two days a week. Since I have joined the El Salitre Women’s and Children’s Center I have learned to sew, purchased a treadle machine so I can mend clothes in my home, and am better able to provide for my children. Thank you for purchasing from our Center and helping my family.
